The Environmental Commission is concerned with the "protection, development and use of the natural resources" located in Riverton. Riverton's most sensitive environmental asset is the Pompeston Creek and the open space along its banks.

The Commission has published an environmental inventory of the Pompeston (see www.pompestoncreek.org); proposed a stream corridor protection ordinance; and worked with developers to assure the preservation of woods along the Creek. Other recent areas of interest have included preservation of open space along the Delaware near the sewage plant, and working with Rutgers Cooperative Extension on a regional storm water management plan.
